The Alaska Outdoors Story

I first traveled to Alaska in 1991; I was in college studying Biology and Ecology and a part time river guide in search of adventure. Very early on in my guiding career I discovered a passion for exploring nature with others and the strong pull of Alaska. After graduating in 1992, I returned to Alaska and have since traveled throughout the state as a tour guide, naturalist, and manager for several Alaska adventure tour companies.

Throughout my experiences participating in Alaska adventure travel, I have shared thousands of experiences with travelers from throughout the world. Without a doubt, the most memorable experiences we have shared together have occurred in the outdoors, away from the modern infrastructure that permeates most of our busy lives. The solitude in the Alaskan wilderness is something to be felt and to truly experience this you must explore Alaska in the outdoors.

In 1999 I began researching and in 2001, started Alaska Outdoors. I wanted to offer an Alaska travel experience that emphasized the outdoors and the rejuvenating properties of wilderness. I chose my favorite Alaskan parks and protected areas that unite my interest in biology and my love of camping, with the most exciting outdoor activities available in Alaska. Thus, Alaska Outdoors was born.

I had 9 guests that post 9/11 year and ran 2 trips. Alaska Outdoors has grown considerably since then, and now hosts hundreds of travelers from throughout the world on multi day camping trips throughout the state.

Recently, Alaska Outdoors was recognized by National Geographic Adventure as one of the best outfitters on Earth, a distinction with which we are very proud.

I feel very fortunate; we have attracted a team of expert guides who are among the best in the business. They understand their role in shaping your Alaska travel experience and truly love what they do.

We all work well together at our base camp in Wasilla, our behind the scenes systems are well developed, and our full attention is spent experiencing Alaska and taking care of our visitors. We have developed a recipe for great Alaskan travel experiences and our trips are becoming very popular as the word gets out.

Our trips offer an active and affordable approach to Alaska adventure travel, well suited for first time campers and seasoned outdoors persons alike. We take great care to ensure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment. We will take you to our favorite places and show you our favorite outdoor adventures. We’ll introduce you to a land you’ve always dreamed of.

Join us and discover for yourself. Alaska is best experienced outdoors camping in the land of the midnight sun.

We hope to see you in Alaska.
