DO I NEED PRIOR CAMPING EXPERIENCE?

No. Many of our guests have never been camping before. With our top of the line equipment, efficient systems, and expert guides you'll be amazed at how easy, comfortable, and fun camping in Alaska can be.

CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?

Camping is an excellent activity to be enjoyed with the whole family. Consider our Classic Family Tour if you are traveling with children. Minimum age is 8.

WHAT ABOUT SINGLE TRAVELERS?

Many of our tour participants are single. If there are two same sex single travelers on a trip we will pair you in a tent, or have your own if you prefer (let our office staff know prior to your trip). The following single supplement charges will be applied if we cannot pair you with another participant on our hotel stay day(s): Classic Alaskan Tour and Wildlife Tour $75. Grand Tour Combo $150.

WILL I SEE WILDLIFE?

Although abundant, wildlife can be elusive to spot. Sightings vary from trip to trip. We have developed our tours to maximize the potential to view wildlife and most often we are successful.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

That varies from year to year. Some summers see very little rain. Others are a bit wetter. Temperatures are generally mild: 60's to 70's (sometimes much warmer) in the day and 50's at night with some exceptions. Late August and September trips can be a bit cooler, although fall colors and the possibility of Northern Lights make up for it. We highly recommend adequate raingear for prolonged periods in the rain.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

That depends on your interests. June generally has fewer travelers than other months. Late June and July brings wildflowers and a bit warmer temperatures. Late August and early September bring fall colors and the possibility of Northern Lights.

HOW BAD ARE THE BUGS?

Most people are surprised at how easy it is to get along with the bugs. Most of the time we encounter few of them, other times they can be a bit more bothersome. Mosquito repellent, however, is very effective at repelling them and our screened in kitchen shelter provides a haven from the occasionally pesky bugs while in camp.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF THE OPTIONAL DAY TRIP ADVENTURES?

Our tours are designed so that you can pursue your own interests. At each destination you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of optional activities not included in the tour cost. The following list of day trip costs are approximate and subject to change but will give you a general idea of what to expect. Advanced reservations may be required for some trips. Call our office for more details.

HOW MUCH TIME DO WE SPEND DRIVING?

Alaska is a big state. In order to get a feel for the different biotic communities and interesting geography located here one must commit to a bit of travel. The rewards are worth it. We have designed our trips to highlight the best parks and protected areas in the state in a manner that limits the amount of time in a vehicle. Travel is generally limited to every 2nd or 3rd day and takes anywhere between 3 to 6 hours with stops for wildlife, photography, and short walks. Many of our guests enjoy the relaxing ride and outstanding scenery (including nationally recognized scenic byways) between destinations.

WHERE SHOULD I STAY IN ANCHORAGE?

Contact us and we will recommend accommodations in Anchorage.

We recommend arriving at least the day before your trip departure. All trips leave approximately 9:00 am on day 1. All trips arrive back in Anchorage by approximately 5:00 pm on the last tour day. Your guide will drop you off at either your hotel or at the airport at this time.

WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS LIKE LOW FAT, VEGETARIAN, ETC?

No problem. We’ll send out a trip questionnaire to learn about your eating habits prior to your trip. You’ll be surprised how versatile our menus are and how well we will feed you. Just let us know what your likes and dislikes are. We do our best to accommodate everyone.
